INSIDE OUT

Initial sketch, commissioned oil of siblings on the beach; charcoal on canvas, 18 x 24”

From the beginning: because sometimes it is interesting to see how things work, and where they begin.

People can be nervous about commissioning a painting, either because they don’t have a sense of how it will look when it is finished, or they think they know exactly what they want, and that is hard to explain.

With communication, some time with a camera and the subject(s), some perusal of the photos, and then a look at the sketch, basics get worked out, and a painting can begin.

This was a fun painting to begin: a bunch of photos taken late in the day on a beautiful beach with 3 willing and handsome young subjects, and a lot of wind and sand and sky. I have since done an underpainting over this sketch, which I will post; when the finished piece is approved, I will post that, too.

Having fun making it grow, and I hope it’s fun to watch it grow. Thanks, as always, for looking!
