MIRAGE

Or, "Midday At The Oasis." A large reflecting pool in a thirsty city, ringed with palms and grass. An overcast, still day. Stalking koi and turtles in the pool, camera in hand, I felt a drop. Could it be real? (It’s been months since it rained.). Just a drop or two – what an acquaintance of my Dad’s once called “A ten-inch rain”...that is, just about 10 inches between drops. Real San Diego-style rain.
This is the third in my Rain On Water series. Unsurprisingly, my invocations have produced no miraculous down-pours. If I could dance, I would, but this is my way of hoping out loud. And of visually exploring that sense of calm that comes after a storm, when the last few drops fall and the clouds begin to pass. When the air is freshened and moist, leaves washed, and the birds come back and resume their vocalizes.
I like the punctuation of that ripple-broken palm trunk, the peculiar grey of the cloud cover reflection, and the complicated combination of drops and ripples sometimes breaking that surface.
So, it did rain just a bit (Or did it?).
